Beccles Cycle For Life is Back

Now in its sixteenth year, Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride organised by the Rotary Club of Beccles will be on Sunday May 14 and it is already attracting entries.

The ride is to raise funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Rotary Club’s charitable trust in equal shares. Suitable for all ages and abilities, the Beccles Cycle for Life gives you the choice between distances of 7, 15, 25, 40 and 50 miles, ideal for families and serious riders.

John Swanbury, spokesman for the organisers of the event, told us “This year we are hoping to raise even more money than last year’s record year, when we raised £10,800, half of which was for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. We also need to keep our club’s own charitable trust in good health. We are really grateful for all the support we receive and especially grateful on behalf of the charities to those riders who raise even a little sponsorship on top of their entry fee.”

Norfolk and Suffolk Financial Services Limited is donating five prizes this year (instead of the prize bike awarded in previous years) for sponsored riders to win, to be drawn at Beccles Hospital Fete on the last Saturday in June.

First prize is a £250 John Lewis Partnership gift card. Riders aged 16 and over (on the day of the event) get one chance in this prize draw for every £25 sponsorship raised. Four runners up will receive £25 John Lewis Partnership gift cards. Riders aged under 16 (on the day of the event) get one chance in this prize draw for every £10 raised.

Lord Somerleyton has been a regular rider in the event and has already entered again to ride 50 miles. In addition to the fantastic rewards offered by N&S Financial, Lord Somerleyton is again offering two prizes, which are for rider who raises the most sponsorship and also for the runner-up. The top prize is dinner up to the value of £100, plus bed and breakfast to the value of £100 at the Fritton Arms and the second one is dinner up to the value of £100 at the Dukes Head, Somerleyton.

Details, entry forms for postal entry and a facility for solo riders to enter online are available through the Beccles Cycle for Life website.

Already nearly 40 riders have entered and it may build up to about 450, so make sure you register soon!
