Fresh from their successful revamping of the Beccles Lido and Public Hall, Beccles Lido Limited have now taken over the much-loved Big Dog Ferry on the River Waveney.
The ferry travels between Beccles and the Geldeston Locks, one of the region’s best and most popular pubs. Until 2011 the ferry was operated by Paul Aldis, who had to retire last year due to health concerns.
Mr Aldis sold the ferry to Beccles Lido Limited, who have vowed to keep the service going. Shaun Crowley, the Lido’s chief executive, told the BBC: “It will raise more funds for the lido.” To help achieve this, a new stop has been added on the ferry’s route, which will drop off and pick up passengers from the open air pool.
The ferry does five return trips per day, and is a great way to explore Beccles’ leisure venues while enjoying the local countryside. For more information, including timetables and special events, visit the Big Dog Ferry website.
