John Humby, 85, has finally retired from his position as manager and secretary of Beccles Town Football Club, after 47 years in the business.
Dubbed ‘Mr Beccles FC’ by many people, Mr. Humby’s passion for football as seen him serve at the centre of the town’s grass roots football scene as both manager and secretary of the club. His retirement after so many years has made such an impact on the town that he has become the subject of a nostalgic film about his enduring dedication and story as the club’s leader, made by freelance cinematographer Steve Curtis.
Mr. Humby said: “I’ve cut the pitch, pumped up the balls and got the kits ready. That’s the sort of thing you have to do with this level of football… I’ve got folders full of photos, match reports, results sheets and newspaper cuttings. People have given me lots of things over the years and it’s good to keep a record.”
