Other Info
Beginning on Friday the 27th June, the second Beccles Festival Weekend is set to bring life and joy to this lovely Suffolk town. The first day sees sever performances of 17th and 18th century music presented by soprano Julia Gooding, lutenist Paula Chateauneuf and harpist Frances Kelly. MS Gooding was educated at Sir John Leman High School in Beccles and is keen to return to her old town.

The next day sees a programme filled with pieces by the Waveney Young Musicians, who are all performers specialising in classical works and all under the age of 25.

Sunday's closing concert will be a unique presentation of a 16th century Requiem, Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Officium Defunctorum, alongside Gabriel Fauré’s much-loved 19th century Requiem. The former is to be performed by the Capella Antiqua choir, based in Beccles, and directed by Philip Thorby. The latter piece is to be sung by the Festival Chorus, a group of local singers who have been trained by Vetta Wise, the prestigious choral conductor and leader.

Further details, venues and ticket prices are available online at www.becclesfestival.co.uk or from Edge Computer Solutions, opposite St Michael’s tower in Beccles. Under 18s are admitted for free to the Saturday concert.
