What’s on in Beccles this Summer

Summer is a time for enjoying long, hot relaxing days in the sun. But in amongst all that relaxation, there’s plenty of room for some classic British Summer fun. We’re taking a look at the best of what’s on in Caister this summer, so if you’ve been looking for day out ideas, read on!

Love Holidays in Beccles in Suffolk

The centrepiece of Beccles’ summer schedule is the town carnival, which sees the whole town come out to celebrate the sunny season. The carnival begins on Saturday 20th August with the Family starting at 1300 hours on Beccles Quayside. Featuring the Beccles Baby competition, Fancy Dress, Childrens Races and, new for 2016, Beccles’ 1st Fun Dog Show. On Saturday evening the town will be jumping to the sound of live music from the fantastic bands Last Minute and Iconic (formerly known as Aftershock), who are returning by public request. The music kicks off at 1800 hours is live music on stage at Beccles Quayside. There will be a Licensed Bar, and food stalls will be open for trading during the evening.

Sunday is when the carnival really gets going, with the carnival parade setting off on its tour through the town centre at 13:00. if you want to see Suffolk at its very best, then Beccles carnival is the place to be.

If you’re into all things equestrian, then head down to the Beccles and Bungay Riding Club on 3rd July for their annual fun day. As well as games and entertainment for kids, there is a full schedule of dressage and riding events.

If you’ve overdone the sun and you’re in the mood for something a little more cerebral, then Beccles library has some great events lined up that are perfect for bookworms and those who’d like to find out a little more about our wonderful region. This summer’s events kick off with Top Time: Captive in East Anglia on 21st July at 14:00, where local author Diana Spelling will discuss her work on Italian and German prisoners of war in Suffolk. The season continues on 28 July at 14:00 with the Top Time Family History event, where you can learn all about how to discover your family’s origins.

One of the biggest summer Beccles events is the Beccles antiques street market, which in 2016 is scheduled for July 31st. This popular event sees the town transformed into a giant arts and crafts fair, where you can discover delightful curios and incredible work by local artists. If antiques or art are your thing, you won’t want to miss out.
